Introducing the “Wait” group of Actions

It is well known, that different machines work at different speeds, and come up with the same results after a process request, while the process result is the same.

When using WinAutomation, you should be able to determine how long you will allow for a process to run, before it fails.

This is where the “Wait” group of actions come in handy.

“Wait” Action

You can use this action when you want to delay the next action from executing, due to the fact you want to wait for something to happen. It is usually used as extra security, when waiting for something to occur on the machine we use this action to make sure we give the machine enough time to give us the desired results prior to continuing with any actions that follow.…

Delete all empty Lines found in Text or XML Files

Have you ever came up with a CSS, XML or HTML File that is full of empty unnecessary rows and can’t be bothered to spend the time needed clearing it up? Well you no longer need to!!! You can use WinAutomation to do the boring xml parse work for you!

To start with we need to read each Line of the File. We can do that using the “Read text from File” Action, and store the content into %FileContentsList%.
We make sure that we select the Store File Content as List option, so that we can then work on each Line individually.…

Find all duplicate mp3 files

Have you been creating playlists by copying and pasting your MP3 Files from one Folder to another and have ended up with 10 copies of the same song and now need to get things right?

All you need is a job that will compare the content of two Folders and move any duplicate items into a third Folder.

So let’s see how we can accomplish that…

We will start by displaying a Select Folder Dialog to select the Folders we want to compare (Folder A, and Folder B), using the “Display Select Folder Dialog” Action.

We will then continue by getting a list of all the Files contained within these two Folders, using the “Get Files in Folder” Action.…

How To – Shorten URL With Hotkey

One of the tasks that almost everyone repeats daily is the URL shortening. Whenever we want to post a link in our twitter/facebook status, we usually follow the steps below:

1) Select and copy the really long URL to the clipboard (Ctrl+C),
2) Paste it in a shortening service’s form,
3) Hit the submit button,
4) Wait for the service to return the short URL,
5) Copy the short URL,
6) Paste the short URL into our social networking site.

The job we will be creating today, will remove steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 from the equation. All you will have to do in order to paste a short URL instead of a long one, is:

1) Select and copy the really long URL to the clipboard (Ctrl+C),
2) Hit a specific HotKey (i.e Ctrl+Shift+V) and the short URL will be pasted instead of the long one.…
