I’m forever taking printscreens of something I want to show to someone cause I think it’s the best way to explain things without getting people confused.
But taking screenshots one by one then opening paint and pasting the image, and then having to save it in a folder and then try to find the exact path I used to save it in order to send it to whoever I wanted to in the beginning, is a procedure that bores me to death every time!
And since I was not too keen on looking for yet another printscreen utility that would have to run on my pc just to capture screenshots alone.., after playing about for a while with WinAutomation I managed to get a job to do exactly what I need!!
I was not too keen on looking for yet another printscreen utility that would have to run on my pc just to capture screenshots alone, so after playing about for a while with WinAutomation I managed to get a job to do exactly what I need!! Decided to tell it to save the files in the “My pictures” folder under “ScreenCaptures”.
The “My Pictures” folder is always easier to find and it’s in all computers, so I can move my jobs around in all computers I am using and if one does not have the folder already created it’s going to create it (Actions 2 to 4).
The current date and time are needed, so I add this action, and then convert it into text so I can use it to name the new file I will make, but also made sure I used the custom format to avoid backslashes in the file’s name and thus avoid errors.
Since I do have notifiers enabled in my global settings but do not want them to show in the screenshot, I will hide them using window visibility, until I capture the screen and then make visible.
Within the screenshot window I can choose not only to get a screen capture of the entire screen but also focus it on the active window, which saves me loads of cutting and cropping too!
I can choose the format I want for the screenshot taken, and also set the name to be the current date and time followed by “_screenshots” to define what the image is when I try searching my computer looking for any dates.
I also want to be able to use the file path of the file I just created, so, I’ll set the file path to the clipboard ready to be pasted in my email attachment field!!!
It should probably take longer to read this blog, a bit less to get the screenshot manually and less than two seconds to get both the screenshot and the screenshot file path!
*** Not to mention that you can also assign the job to a trigger and run it just by striking ctrl+F11 (That’s my shortcut!!!)
And that’s how I got the screenshots that are displayed above!!!
Enjoy!
